René Mondejar III “The R”

A little over ten years ago, I transitioned into a new career as a residential land developer and started R&S Development with my business partner, Steve Shuttleworth. Our work at R&S dovetails perfectly with my experience in the mortgage industry and allows me to get involved with the building process at the ground level. At R&S Development we focus on two of the highest-growth markets in the US; Southeastern North Carolina and Southern Colorado.

I’ve successfully funded, developed, and returned profits for our investors/partners on over 15 projects with R&S. I excel at cultivating deep connections with landowners, brokers, and builders; and partner with them to create thriving communities. Through these relationships, we ultimately provide people the opportunity to achieve home ownership bringing me full circle to my first career field. 

I love what I do—working for myself, being an entrepreneur, and partnering with the best of the best to deliver prosperous results for all parties. 

While I have been blessed to have accomplished two ever-evolving careers, my greatest pride and true blessing comes from my family. Over 20 years ago I founded the Cubano Charity Golf Tournament which celebrates my father (a WWII Veteran) and our Cuban heritage while benefitting and supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Furthermore, my wife Tobi and I have had the privilege of raising two wonderful children, who continually bring us pride and joy.

With over 35 years working in multiple facets of the real estate industry, I have built a versatile and successful career where there is never a dull moment. Prior to starting R&S Development with my business partner, René Mondejar, I worked as a real estate broker and in acquisitions and development. I was also proud to serve my industry on the planning commission for Colorado Springs and on the board of directors for both the Colorado and Pikes Peak Realtor Association.

R&S specializes in horizontal land development, meaning we don’t build anything “higher than a curb”. We’ve chosen to operate in markets that provide some of the most abundant real estate opportunities in the country: southeastern North Carolina and southern Colorado. By collaborating with a core network of the best in the industry, R&S catalyzes projects that ultimately lead to neighborhoods for people to call home. Our system of lenders, civil engineers, permitting agencies, contractors, and builders are consistently delivering great results, leading to lucrative returns for our investors.  

My specialties include on-site, on-ground analysis of specific real estate assets, consultation and strategy for maximum investment returns, and industry savvy to navigate and expedite clearance. As a land developer, I concentrate on acquisition, site analysis, entitlement, horizontal construction, sales, and marketing, with a primary focus in residential and mixed-use developments and residential subdivisions.

Being an entrepreneur affords me the freedom to do what I love and work for myself. It is an extremely enriching career, and I am fortunate to partner with other industry leaders to produce advantageous results.
